The Village of Warfield is pleased to advise that the Province of British Columbia has approved up to $350,000 through the Disaster Resilience and Innovation Funding (DRIF) program to support development of a Trail Creek Flood Mitigation Plan.
This funding will allow the Village to build on the recently completed Trail Creek Floodplain Mapping and Flood Frequency Analysis work. The next phase will focus on identifying and evaluating practical options to reduce flood and erosion risks along the Trail Creek corridor, including risks to roads, culverts, private property, and important regional infrastructure.
Trail Creek has experienced historical flooding and more recent high-water events, and the completed floodplain mapping confirms that climate change is expected to increase future flood risk. The Flood Mitigation Plan will help the Village better understand priority areas, assess potential solutions, engage with partners and stakeholders, and position the community for future infrastructure funding.
This grant does not fund immediate construction. Rather, it provides the technical planning needed to identify cost-effective mitigation options and support future decisions by Council.
