To be elected in the 2026 General Local Election for the Village of Warfield is one (1) Mayor and four (4) Councillors.

Resident and Non-Resident Electors and Registration

Electors & Elector Registration

Resident Electors: As a Resident Elector, you live in the Village of Warfield. In order to vote, you must be on the Provincial List of Registered Resident Electors (the Voters List).  Contact the Village Office if you are not sure whether you are on the List of Registered Resident Electors.

Non-Resident Property Owner Electors: As a Non-Resident Property Owner Elector, you live outside of the Village, but you own property within the Village of Warfield (see below).  You must contact the Village Office to obtain an application to register as a Non-Resident Property Owner Elector.

To register as either a Resident Elector or a Non-Resident Property Owner Elector you:

• live in the Village of Warfield (Resident Elector) or you live outside of Village boundaries, but you are a registered owner of real property within the Village for 30 days immediately before the day of registration, but not holding property in trust for a corporation or another trust (Non-Resident), and
• are a Canadian Citizen, and
• 18 years of age or older on the day of registration or on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
• are a resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately prior to day of registration, and
• are not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

Non-Resident Property Owner Electors:

1. You are not entitled to register as a resident elector.
2. If there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a Non-resident Property owner Elector.
3. Should you own more than 1 parcel of real property, you may only register to vote once.

Registration requires 2 pieces of ID as proof of identity and residency.  Acceptable ID includes:

1. BC Drivers Licence/Care Card
2. BC Identification Card
3. BC Gold Care Card
4. BC Services Card (with or without a photo)
5. Vehicle insurance papers
6. Social Insurance Number Card
7. Citizenship Card
8. Property Tax Notice
9. Credit card or debit card;
10. Utility Bill.

NOTE:  The Village has “same-day registration” where all eligible Electors may register to vote at the polls on either October 7^th, advance voting day or on October 17^th, general voting day. Two pieces of ID will be required.

Running for Council

You are qualified to be nominated, elected and to hold office as a member of local government if you meet the following criteria:

• are 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 17, 2026); be a Canadian citizen;
• have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately prior to filing nomination documents (prior to March 10, 2026);
• not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

In addition to the above, Candidates are required to file financial disclosure statements, when they complete and submit their nomination packages. While in office, financial disclosures are filed annually and upon leaving elected office.

Candidate Nomination Packages will be available in person at the Village Office starting on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Nominations will be accepted by the Chief or Deputy Chief Elections Officer during regular office hours from Tuesday, September 1, 2026, until Friday, September 11, 2026. Potential candidates are reminded that in order to run as a candidate, you must be nominated by two (2) people who are qualified to vote either as resident or non-resident property electors in the Village of Warfield.
